How can Trump love US, talk the way he does?

Over the past several months, numerous letters have supported President Trump. With the exception of Paul Pospisill’s recent submission, there have been no letters expressing a different view.

I would like to change that dynamic. I find it extremely difficult to believe that Trump loves our country and all the people who live here. How can a President love his country and talk the way he talks? The recent remarks directed against Representative Elijah Cummings and the people and city of Baltimore are inexcusable. If he loved the people of Baltimore, he certainly would have chosen more benign language and would be pushing Congress to pass infrastructure bills and poverty bills rather than engaging in bullying. Can you think of ANY former President who engaged in similar rhetoric? How dare he even use the word love. People seem to either forget or condone all his former comments: “I have a great relaionship with the blacks.” “The beauty of me is that I’m very rich.” I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And, when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the p***y. You can do anything.” Repulsive, yes, caught on video, yes, true, yes. Some people sloughed it off as “locker room talk”. Maybe for an adolescent, but a President?

I would challenge (or dare!!!) the supporters of Donald Trump to seek the truth. A good way to start would be to check out the website, FactCheck.org. Fact Check describesitself as a “consumer advocate for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics”. It’s an award winning project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. It was launched 15 years ago in December, 2003. It is not a hoax, it is non-partisan. Any politician is subject to scrutiny.

I would like to quote a few examples of their work:

On June 6, 2019, Trump said, “The Wall is under construction and moving along quickly despite all of the Radical Liberal Democrat lawsuits. What are they thinking as our country is invaded by so many people illegals) and things (drugs) that we do not want. Make America Great Again!”

Fact check: No, Trump’s wall is not yet being built. Congress inserted specific language in its appropriations bill that none of the $1.57 billion appropriated for border protection may be used only for prototypes of a concrete wall that Trump observed while in California. The money can be used only for bollard fencing and levee fencing, or for replacement of existing fencing… all told, Congress as funded about 175 miles of barriers. Trump has also tapped a Treasury Department asset forfeiture fund to build 30 miles and unused Pentagon funding to fund 53 miles. That adds up to a little under 260 miles, which in Trump-speak often gets translated to 400 miles.

Again on June 6, 2019, Trump said; “One thing with the (Mexico) tariff, when those tariffs go on, companies are going to move back to the United States.”

Fact check: The huge disparity in labor wages around the world, the relative ease with which companies can relocate or outsource jobs, and the globalized nature of the economy, make this a fantasy claim.

Again, Trump said:

“We have the cleanest air in the world in the United States, and it’s gotten better since I’m President.”

Fact check: Trump withdrew the United States from participation in the Paris accord to combat climate change, and he falsely asserted that the United States had the world’s “cleanest air” and “cleanest climate” and even the “cleanest water”. The United States actually ranks 27th in the world, according to the authoritative Environmental Performance Index, a projectof Yale and Columbia universities. It ranks 10th for air quality-but 88thon exposure to particulate matter, an indication of the health effects from pollution-and 29th for water and sanitation. The U.S. is tied for first place-with nine other countries-for the quality of drinking water. The number of unhealthy days in the U.S. went up from 2016 to 2017, according to government data-but he has taken a number of actions that could reverse or slow the gains made in air and water quality since 1990.

The man lies, exaggerates and makes misleading statements many times DAILY. So far in 2019, he has averaged nearly 22 false claims a day. Does he care? NO. Do you care? I hope so. Do I care? YES. Lying is wrong. It’s deceptiv, it’s not a quality you want in the President of the UNited States. It certainly is not the quality of a true patriot. I wonder why another Republican is not stepping up to the plate and giving the party an alternative in the primaries. Could it be that everyone is afraid? He does have a way of belittling even his friends, slamming them with cruel and untrue words. I would like to ask the Christian supporters of this President, “What would Jesus do?” President Trump goes against decency , civility and the Christion principle of love. God give courage to the Democrat that has to face him in the debates.

This next election will be the most important in our history. Will we be able to begin to dig out of the incredible mess that Trump has created all over the world, will we elect someone who will build bridges, not walls? Will we elect a decent, civil person who knows how to speak a language of care and concern for all people, all nationalities, all races, and all religions. This President goes against decency, civility, and the Christian principal of love? It’s all up to decent, civil, caring and concerned people. I pray we have the integrity to become that kind of person.
