Check out the new National Corner
Thumbs up to National Corner, the newest downtown must see in Tiffin that is highlighted by an already popular splash pad. The park will see a dedication ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The East Green and adjacent amphitheater will then host a “Sunday Funday” at 3 p.m. with Wally and the Beavs performing.
Thumbs down to the alleged animal cruelty that was uncovered as part of a recent investigation. A search warrant had initially been executed in Upper Sandusky, where 150 dogs (one deceased) were found, removed and placed with the Humane Society of Wyandot County. This led to an investigation of a Tiffin residence, where another 17 dogs were found.
Thumbs up to Tiffin Police Department Sgt. Bryan Bryant, who worked his last day with the force Thursday. Bryant was the last Tiffin officer to be hired in the 1980s and will be sorely missed, according to those who work with him. Congrats to Tiffin native Bryant, a true hometown hero.
Thumbs down to a scary train crash in the Carey area when one train hit another, injuring one and closing roads for a good amount of time. It was another reminder that the many railways in our region must be approached with caution.
Thumbs up again for Tiffin’s Third Thursday program, which saw another successful edition focusing on Back to School shopping. Up next is “Fall in Love with Downtown Tiffin” Thursday, Sept. 20.
Thumbs up to Columbian High School students Brian Edmond (trombone) and Bennett Ramsdell (tuba), who played with the Toledo Youth Symphony for four performances this season.
Thumbs up to all local teachers and administrators, who will meet with their classes for the first time next week. Heidelberg University and Tiffin University students will be found moving back onto campus in the coming days. After a nice long summer, “The Education Community” is back in full force.
Thumbs up to Bascom Joint Fire District’s new station at 5450 Tiffin St., which saw a dedication last Sunday. The station was the result of much partnership and hard work over the years and shines brightly along Bascom’s main thouroughfare.
