Memorial Day was memorable

Thumbs up to those who were honored on Memorial Day. Tiffin puts on a great parade for Memorial Day, but not lost on all who attended was the reason we celebrate — to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Thumbs up to A-T editor Rob Weaver, who is leaving the profession after 33 years of service to this community and local paper. Congrats, Rob, from your staff and community!

Thumbs down to the weather — which while Seneca County was spared, the tornados that ripped through parts of Ohio early this week were heartbreaking. Our condolences go out to the families of those who were killed, hurt or suffered damaged property during the storms.

Thumbs down to the rain — we appreciate our fair share this time of year, but we’d love to see some consistency. Our agriculture community could sure use a string of nice, rain-free days to settle into work in the fields.

Thumbs up to the Heidelberg University baseball team, who this weekend is competing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the Division III College World Series for the second time in school history. Go Student Princes!

Thumbs up to our local track and field athletes who are competing at the state meet this weekend at The Ohio State University. Run fast, jump high and throw far!

Thumbs up to a pair of local baseball teams — Seneca East and Upper Sandusky — who won their districts last week and who competed in regionals the end of this week. Local athletes certainly have given us plenty to write about of late.

Thumbs up to a great sign of summer — the opening of the pool at Hedges-Boyer Park, which followed another sign of summer — the end of the school year. Enjoy it out there, kids.
