Reasons to vote today

It’s primary election day, when voters in Tiffin might decide to spend a fraction of their federal tax break on streets and bridges in the city by increasing the income tax rate from 1.75 to 2 percent.

But people who don’t live within Tiffin city limits still have plenty of reasons to cast a ballot today.

Registered Democrats can pick from Richard Cordray, Larry Ealy, Dennis Kucinich, Bill O’Neill, Paul Ray and Joe Schiavoni to run for governor in the fall. They’ll also select Janet Garrett, Leah Sellers or Cody James Slatzer-Rose to run for Congress.

On the Republican ballot, Mike DeWine and Mary Taylor are vying to be the party’s nominee for governor. Sandra O’Brien and Robert Sprague are competing to run for state treasurer in the fall. A five-way race for Senate involves Melissa Ackison, Don Elijah Eckhart, Mike Gibbons, Dan Kiley and Joe Renacci, and Jim Jordan and Joseph Miller are competing for our area’s congressional seat.

And everyone, including independent voters, can weigh in on Issue 1, which seeks a more bipartisan way of redrawing Ohio’s congressional districts.

So take time to vote today. Polls are open 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Not sure where you vote? Visit www.voterfind.com/seneca
