Walter Wayne Crum, Jr.

Walter Wayne Crum, Jr., 85, of Findlay passed away at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Blanchard Valley Hospital.

He was born July 23, 1934, in Scipio Township, Seneca County, to Walter Wayne, Sr. and Hazel Caroline (Weber) Crum. He married Gwen Cooksey first and she preceded him in death. He then married Sue Ellen Bird-Dietsch Dec. 23, 1995, and she survives.

Walter is also survived by his sons, Scott (Brenda) Dietsch of Leipsic and Terry (Patricia) Dietsch of Perry, Georgia; his daughter, Laurie (Duff) Altman of Deshler; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Freed of Findlay; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Walter was a 1952 graduate of Van Buren High School. He worked for and retired from Marathon Petroleum as a design engineer and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the 11th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Air Force, visiting Hawaii for over 30 years.

Walter loved going fishing on Lake Erie, and was an avid reader of all things, but especially World War II history.

Visitation for Walter will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, 205 W. Sandusky St., Findlay.

His funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the funeral

home. Pastor Ron Hoeksema will officiate and Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad will provide full military rites.
