Shirley Emily Skokane

Shirley Emily Skokane, 94, of Tiffin and formerly of Genoa, passed away peacefully at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

She was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Teresa (Durante) Skokane.

She is survived locally by her sister, Lorraine Meisner, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, June Woods and Eleanor Skokane.

Shirley was a 1944 Calvert High School graduate, and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from Mary Manse College and her Master’s Degree in education from Bowling Green State University. She taught Math, English, Spanish and History at Nazareth Hall, Grand Rapids, Ohio, then at Woodmore Middle School in Woodville where she taught for many years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

During her life, Shirley enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states and 44 countries. She also enjoyed the R.V. life for many years with her friends and dog.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside services will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
