Rev. William ‘Bill’ Harry Smith

Rev. William “Bill” Harry Smith, 80, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday evening Nov. 24, 2019, at Mercy Health – St Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.

William Harry Smith, the son of Mr. Arthur and Mrs. Stella (Frey) Smith, was born Nov. 14, 1939, in Collinsville, Illinois. He was baptized in St. John Evangelical United Church of Christ of Collinsville, Illinois.

Rev. and Mrs. Smith have two daughters, Kristi Krintzline, husband Chris and Kari Smith. They are proud grandparents to two grandsons, Aidan and Alex Krintzline and sister, Louise “Sis” Rudis.

Rev. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, LaVern and Arthur Smith.

He graduated from Collinsville High School, Collinsville, Illinois, in 1957.

William and Carol Ann Updike were married June 12, 1965, in St. John United Church of Christ, Collinsville, Illinois. Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Illinois.

In 1966, William received Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Illinois. June 6, 1969, he received his Masters of Divinity degree from Eden Theological Seminary, Webster Groves, Missouri.

The Reverend and Mrs. Smith began their ministry July 1, 1969, in Peace United Church of Christ, Jerseyville, Illinois, and United Church of Christ, Fieldon, Illinois. Rev. Smith next served Peace United Church of Christ in New Salem, North Dakota. He then served Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin, followed by Interim Pastor at Union United Church of Christ in Bascom, and St. John’s United Church of Christ of Fostoria. He was serving as Pastor at First United Church of Christ in Findlay.

Friends may visit with the family 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424 and an hour prior to service at First United Church of Christ in Findlay.

His memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at First United Church of Christ in Findlay, 2100 Greendale Ave., Findlay, OH 45840 with the Rev. David Culp officiating.
