Claude W. Montz

Claude W. Montz, 93, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, at Kingston Residence of Sylvania.

He was born June 22, 1926, in Eden Township, Seneca County. He was the son of Ralph and Cora (Everhart) Montz. He married Helen E. (McCormick) Montz Aug. 13, 1949, in Tiffin.

Surviving are his wife Helen; a son, Richard of DeBury, Florida; a daughter, Jane (Joe) McCowan and granddaughter, Leila Wicker, all of Sylvania; and sisters, Shirley (Jim)Reichman of Findlay, and Evelyn Stover of Sycamore.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother; brother, Howard R. Montz; and sister-in-law, Lois Montz.

He graduated from Sycamore High School in 1944, and in 1950 from Bowling Green State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with an accounting major. He later received an Ohio CPA Certification.

Mr. Montz served in the United States Navy from June 1944 to 1946, during World War II, in the Pacific theater.

He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Tiffin, where he performed the church annual audit for many years. Mr. Montz was a member of the USS LSM-LSMR Association, and a past member of the Tiffin Eagles Lodge and the Tiffin Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives.

Mr. Montz retired as an accountant/auditor, from Snyder, Scheffler, Scherer & Fast, Inc., Certified Public Accountants in 1991. He also worked 37 years for the H.G. Snyder and Associates, Inc., Certified Public Accountants, and after retiring, worked for P.T. Services.

Mr. Montz was a loving husband and father. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing golf.

A memorial service will take place for the family at a later time.
