’Dick’ George R. Ditslear, Jr.
“Dick” George R. Ditslear, Jr., 80, of Tiffin, passed away at 10:44 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.
He was born Oct. 12, 1938, in Tiffin, to George Richard Sr. and Doris Louise (Montz) Wertz. He married Virginia (Weiker) Jan. 19, 1962, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and she survives.
Survivors include his son, Phillip (Vickie) Ditslear of Fremont; a daughter, Denise (Kevin) Lee of Monroe, Georgia; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, Jack Ditslear of California, Mike (Charlene) Ditslear of Tiffin and Russ (Sandy) Wertz of St. Louis; three sisters, Judy (Dick) Pratt of Wooster, Val (Ed) Beitel of Michigan and Sara (Denny) Welly of Tiffin.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ron Ditslear, Gene Wertz and Clair Wertz; and a sister, Barb Barnes.
He was a 1956 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and a member St. Paul’s United Methodist Church then later transferred to Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.
Dick was an United States Air Force veteran.
He worked for Fireside Auto Wrecking for nine years then went on to retire from the Tiffin Center after 26 years.
Visitation for family and friends will be 10-11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin.
The funeral for Dick will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens with full military honors provided by United Veteran’s Council.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church or United Veterans Council.
