Shirley King Ruden
Shirley King Ruden, 87, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and formerly of Tiffin, passed away peacefully Friday, June 1, 2018, at Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills.
Shirley was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Oelwein, Iowa, the only child of Lee and Grace King. She was preceded in death by her cousin, Zelda Aagesen, who was fostered by her parents, and who Shirley affectionately considered her older sister.
Shirley is survived by four children, William Ruden of Lompoc, California, Edward (Amanda) Ruden of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Douglas Ruden of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and Sharon (Edward) Sweet of Carmel, Indiana; along with six grandchildren, Ximena, Tiger and Lily Ruden, Zachary and Madeleine Sweet and Emma (Steve) Hossy.
She attended the University of Iowa, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in dietetics. After working as a dietician at a hospital in Chicago, she married Donald Ruden and had three boys and a girl. She was the clinical dietitian at Tiffin Developmental Center, Tiffin, for many years until her retirement where she subsequently moved to Irondale, Alabama, then Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She was a lifelong member of Disciples of Christ Church, a 50-plus year member of American Dietetic Association and belonged to the Tiffin chapter of American Association of University Women.
