Mary Doris Bolen
Mary Doris Bolen, 100, formerly of 1720 N. Union St., Fostoria, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria, where she resided for 15 years.
She was born April 14, 1916, to George and Coral (Fox) Roberts in Hancock County on the family farm. Both have since passed. Doris married Norman R. Bolen Nov. 7, 1937, at United Methodist Church, North Main Street, Fostoria. Norm passed away Oct. 2, 2001, at age 89, after almost 65 years of marriage.
Surviving are their son, Gerhard N. Bolen of Port Charlotte, Florida; daughter, Cathie J. Rhoades of Marion; four grandchildren, Deanna Bolen of Columbus, Doug (Lisa) Bolen of Indianapolis, Indiana, Bethany (Tim) Daley of Dublin and Robyn (Dave) Gore of Marysville; two great-grandchildren, Kendal Bolen of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Donnie (Dana) Bolen of New York City; and one great-great-granddaughter, Spencer Rose Bolen of New York City.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, were her infant sister, Leila Opal Roberts, and brother, Orville W. Roberts.
Doris attended Arcadia school until 1932, when the family moved to Fostoria; and she graduated from Fostoria High School in 1934. She worked at Feasels Market for seven years. A longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, she was a 50-plus-year member of Silver Star Circle of Kings Daughters and Order of Eastern Star No. 94. Previously, she was a member of Women’s Club, Fostoria Historical Society, a Red Cross volunteer and a Girl Scout leader. Her hobbies included genealogy, collecting lighthouses and spending time with family and her cat.
Her funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at Harold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating. Burial will be at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where an Eastern Star Memorial Service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
