State COVID-19 cases up 4,100 last week

Ohio cases of COVID-19 topped 24,000 in Sunday's report from the Ohio Department of Health, showing more than 4,100 new cases since last Sunday. The ODH website Sunday reported 24,081 total cases total cases — 22,891 confirmed and 1,190 probable. Those numbers are an increase from 23,697 Saturday, 23,016 Friday, 22,131 Thursday, 21,576 Wednesday, 20,969 Tuesday, 20,474 Monday and 19,914 last Sunday. The statewide death total was 1,341 Sunday, up from 1,331 Saturday, 1,306 Friday, 1,271 Thursday and 1,038 last Sunday. That means 303 people died from the virus last week, or 6% of total cases. The ODH website reported no change to Seneca County's numbers, remaining at 14 confirmed cases. The latest numbers in Wood County Wednesday were 223 confirmed and probable cases, including 57 hospitalized and 30 deaths. Of the cases, 158 are related to long-term-care facilities — 117 residents and 41 staff members. Numbers reported by other neighboring counties were: Crawford, 76 confirmed and probable, 2 hospitalized, 38 recovered, 1 death; Hancock, 39 confirmed and probable, 7 hospitalized; 1 death; Sandusky, 49 confirmed and probable, 17 hospitalized, 7 deaths; Wyandot, 26 confirmed and probable, 3 current hospitalizations, 20 recovered, 2 deaths; and Huron, 38 confirmed and probably, 8 hospitalized, 12 recovered, 1 death. Lucas County continues to have the most deaths reported at 164 Sunday, up from 161 Friday, 155 Thursday, 151 Wednesday and 133 Tuesday. Ohio counties with more than 1,000 cases include Franklin, 3,777 (119 deaths); Cuyahoga, 2,795 (146 deaths); Marion, 2,387 (13 deaths); Pickaway, 1,845 (23 deaths); Lucas, 1,757, (164 deaths); Hamilton, 1,757 (101 deaths); Mahoning, 1,119 (122 deaths). Counties with between 400 and 999 cases include Summit, 892, (78 deaths); Lorain, 548 (44 deaths); Stark, 500 (67 deaths); Butler, 452, (13 deaths); and Trumbull, 406 (35 deaths). Counties with between 100 and 400 cases include Montgomery, 390 (10 deaths); Columbiana, 325 (35 deaths); Portage, 276 (46 deaths); Miami, 268 (28 deaths); Belmont, 234, (7 deaths); Wood, 223 (30 deaths); Delaware, 220 (4 deaths); Tuscarawas, 211 (1 death); Warren, 206 (13 deaths); Lake, 197 (8 deaths); Medina, 194 (17 deaths); Ashtabula, 192 (18 deaths); Geauga, 189 (19 deaths); Wayne, 186 (42 deaths); Fairfield, 177 (2 deaths); Licking, 162 (7 deaths); Allen, 144 (29 deaths); Clermont, 123 (3 deaths); Richland, 118 (2 deaths); and Washington, 114 (17 deaths). ODH reported 4,351 hospitalizations (18% of total cases) and 1,205 intensive care admissions (5% of total cases) Sunday, up from 4,300 hospitalizations and 1,200 in ICU Saturday, 4,218 hospitalizations and 1,188 in ICU Friday. Of the total, the website reported 16% are healthcare workers. The total number of people tested in Ohio was reported Friday to be 203,672, up from 183,269 Friday, 175,060 Thursday, 167,978 Wednesday and 159,838 Tuesday. The age range of confirmed cases in Ohio is from younger than 1 to age 108 with a median age of 51, and 54% are male and 45% are female. In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website reported Saturday a total of 1.27 million cases, an increase of 25,996 cases. The nationwide death total was reported Saturday to be 77,034, up from 73,297 Thursday and 70,802 Wednesday. Worldwide, the World Health Organization Saturday reported the number of confirmed cases in 215 countries was 3.92 million, up from 3.76 million Friday and 3.67 million Thursday, and the death count was more than 274,400, up from 259,600 Friday, 254,000 Thursday, 247,000 Wednesday and 243,000 Tuesday. The worldwide Coronavirus Dashboard (ncov2019.live/data) Sunday reported the total number of cases at more than 4.1 million with 2.4 million active cases. The site reported more than 282,000 people have died and more than 1.46 million people have recovered.
