Shed burns on East SR 162 property Sunday night
Scipio-Republic Fire Department responded to a call about a “fully-engulfed barn fire” at 10769 E. SR 162 at 9:11 p.m. Sunday, a report from the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office states.
“When we got there, it turned out to be more of a shed, or a chicken coop that was on fire,” Chief Jason Porter of Scipio-Republic Fire Department said.
Bloom Township Fire Department and Attica-Venice-Reed Fire District were also called to assist at the scene.
Chief Porter said the shed was already burnt to the ground by the time they arrived on scene, and it took firefighters about an hour and a half to put out the remaining flames and secure the scene.
“The cause is undetermined, since it was on the ground by the time we got there,” he said. “We tried to pull everything out of the way and took care of the flames that were still going at that point.”
Though there were no monetary property or contents loss estimates made Sunday night, Chief Porter said a tow motor and lawnmower were lost in the fire, and the shed was a total loss.
The Republic and Bloomville Police Departments assisted at the scene by directing traffic, he said.
Joshua D. Kirian is the owner of the property where the fire took place, according to the Seneca County Auditor’s website.
