Upper Sandusky patrolman named Bucyrus Post Trooper of the Year
BUCYRUS — Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Michael D. Smith has been selected as the 2019 Bucyrus Post Trooper of the Year.
Trooper Smith, 38, is in recognition of his outstanding service during 2019 at the Bucyrus Post, a release from the Bucyrus Post of State Highway Patrol states. Fellow troopers stationed at the Bucyrus Post chose Trooper Smith based on his leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude and cooperation with supervisors, peers and the public, the release states.
Trooper Smith joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 2011 and has served at the Bucyrus and Marion posts, it states.
Trooper Smith is a lifelong resident of Upper Sandusky and a graduate of Upper Sandusky High School. Prior to becoming a state trooper, he served in the United States Army, it states.
Other highway patrol awards Smith has received in the past include the Health and Physical Fitness Award, the Safe Driving Award and the Auto Larceny Award, it states.
Trooper Smith resides with his wife Erin and their three children in Upper Sandusky, it states.
