Man dies in accident near Republic

REPUBLIC — A Republic man died in a two-vehicle accident at TR 183 and CR 24 on Wednesday evening. Trooper Brandon Dean of the Norwalk post of State Highway Patrol said Calvin Robinson of Republic was driving a Chevrolet Silverado south on TR 183, and Matthew Potts of Republic was driving a Ford Explorer east on CR 24. Robinson ran the stop sign and struck the Ford Explorer, Dean said. The Ford Explorer overturned and came to rest on its side. Dean said Potts was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Robinson was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt, he said. Both men live within about a mile of the scene, Dean said. Personnel from Republic EMS, Scipio-Republic Fire Department and the Echo unit responded. Attica-Venice-Reed Fire District and Life Flight were en route and canceled, according to Seneca County Sheriff's Office. Attica-Venice-Reed EMS District was on stand-by, and D&D Total Repair LLC and Seneca County Coroner's Office assisted. Citations and charges were pending at the scene. The accident was reported about 5:40 p.m.
