Time to apply for homestead exemption on taxes
Seneca County Auditor Julie Adkins is reminding qualified homeowners to submit 2018 Homestead Exemption applications for real property by Dec. 31.
The Homestead Exemption allows homeowners who are at least 65 years old or are totally and permanently disabled to receive a reduction in property taxes.
Applicants must qualifications:
• For 2018 late filers, total income may not exceed $32,200 on their 2017 Ohio tax return.
• For a 2019 filer, income cannot exceed $32,800 on their 2018 tax return.
• For a 2020 filer, income cannot exceed $33,600 on their 2019 tax return.
• Applicants must own and occupy the property, and the law allows only one exemption per owner or home.
Continuing Homestead Exemption postcards will be mailed in January. Homeowners already receiving the homestead reduction need not re-apply unless they have moved to a different residence, or there has been a change of ownership, disability status, or death.
