Veterans group invests $10,000 to light veteran memorials
A fundraiser from 2016 has concluded with a $10,000 investment in downtown Tiffin.
The Patriot Day Salute Committee collaborated with the city of Tiffin and Seneca County Veterans Services to install lighting at the war memorials along Frost Parkway, a release from the Seneca County Commissioners’ Office states.
The project represented the final phase of the Sept. 11, 2016 Patriot’s Day Salute fundraiser for the Vietnam War Memorial in Tiffin, according to the release.
Proceeds from the Patriot’s Day Salute, along with donations from Clouse Electric, CROSSWAEH, Dr. Jack Felton and Buffalo Wild Wings provided all of the funds needed for the project, it states. CROSSWAEH provided labor and Buffalo Wild Wings will be contributing a portion of its Monday sales to the effort, it states.
The memorials along Frost Parkway include markers for the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Seneca County Commissioner Tony Paradiso, one of the event organizers, is quoted in the release saying he was happy to see the lights get installed.
“This is a great investment in our community, and I’m grateful to everyone who contributed to the fundraising efforts and to those who participated in the Patriot’s Day Salute,” he said.
Retired Brig. Gen. Mark Scheid, who organized the event alongside the Patriot Day Salute Committee, is quoted in the release saying he also is pleased to see the project complete.
“I’m so proud to see this come together,” he said.
