Tiffin man dies in accident on North SR 53

FORT SENECA — A man died in an accident with a semi on North SR 53 in Pleasant Township on Tuesday morning. Richard S. Selvey, 64, of Tiffin, was extricated by mechanical means from the 2014 Dodge Ram he was driving and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol. Selvey was driving the Dodge Ram north on SR 53, and Kenneth A. Deselms, 57, of Oak Harbor, was driving a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia south on SR 53, according to a State Highway Patrol release. The Dodge Ram went left of center and struck the semi head-on, it states. Trooper Don Pratt of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Deselms said he saw the Dodge Ram going left of center and slowed down. "(He) tried to swerve to the right," he said. Troopers believed Selvey fell asleep at the wheel, according to State Highway Patrol. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and Deselms was not hurt, according to the release. Pratt said the semi was registered to Penske Truck Leasing and was hauling cardboard. Personnel from North Central EMS, Old Fort Volunteer Fire Department, Tiffin Fire Rescue Division, Ohio Department of Transportation, Seneca County Coroner's Office and John's Welding & Towing assisted. The accident was reported about 6:15 a.m.
