Fostoria woman dies in Hancock County accident

A Fostoria woman died in a two-vehicle accident in Hancock County’s Cass Township on Monday evening.

According to Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Starr Platt, 38, was taken by Hanco EMS to Blanchard Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.

Alyssa Greenwald, 20, of Fostoria, was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta west on CR 109, and Platt was driving a 2002 Honda Civic south on CR 18, according to a release from Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

After impact, the Volkswagen Jetta came to rest in a ditch on CR 18, and the Honda Civic overturned in a field and came to rest on its side, the release states.

Greenwald and a passenger, Mekhi Lindsey, 17, of Fostoria, were wearing seatbelts and were not hurt, according to the release.

Platt was not wearing her seatbelt, it states.

Hanco EMS, Allen Township Fire Department and Dick’s Towing assisted at the scene of the accident, which occurred about 5:30 p.m.
