Two-vehicle accident shuts down lane on SR 18

A woman was cited with failure to yield right-of-way on a left turn after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of SR 18 and TR 112 Friday afternoon. Alice Hedrick, 73, of Bascom, was driving eastbound in a Buick Encore when she tried to turn left and was struck by another vehicle traveling westbound on SR 18, said Trooper Allison Young of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol. The other vehicle, a Mazda Protege, was driven by Melissa Struble, 41, of Fostoria, Young said. There were no transports or injuries reported at the scene, she said. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, she said, and a passenger was secured in a booster seat in the backseat of Struble's vehicle. Bascom Joint Fire Division and EMS personnel at the scene assisted in shutting down a lane on SR 18 temporarily while the scene was cleared and the vehicles were towed. The Echo unit, Reinhart Auto Body and John's Welding & Towing also assisted at the scene.
