Firefighters assist men at top of grain silo
BASCOM — Two men were assisted down from the top of a grain silo at Bascom Elevator & Supply Association, 6100 Poplar St., by Bascom Joint Fire District and Fostoria Fire Division firefighters Thursday afternoon.
Capt. Jim Nagle of Bascom Joint Fire District said that one man had been stuck up to his knees in the grain and another man had managed to pull him out before firefighters arrived on scene.
A third man had also been stuck on a lift about halfway up the side of the grain silo, Nagle said.
Asst. Chief Chris Daniel of Bascom Joint Fire District said that firefighters had advised the men not to come down from the top of the silo using the lift.
Two men were on top of the grain silo when Bascom Joint Fire District personnel arrived at the scene, Daniel said. Bascom Joint Fire District personnel called Fostoria Fire Division for use of their ladder truck to help get the men down, he said.
Both men helped down from the top of the tower were checked and released at the scene, Nagle said.
“This is one of those times when you can walk away with a big smile,” he said.
Bascom EMS and the Echo unit assisted at the scene.
