Fall in love with Republic events to be Oct. 5

REPUBLIC — Oct. 5 is the time to ‘Fall in Love with Republic.’ Events are planned from 10:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. in the downtown area and Community Park. Historical society members are guiding tours through the log cabin and making apple butter while the Knights of Columbus provide a chicken barbeque. Historical re-enacters perform downtown and officials will have the village’s vehicles on display.

Police Chief Don Holmer reported obtaining quotes for radar signs about $3,200 each to be placed on highways through the village. After checking with the Ohio Department of Transportation, Holmer was authorized with purchasing two signs.

Holmer noted his department would participate in their firearms’ qualifications Saturday.

Members discussed an abandoned property near downtown with a rodent problem. Holmer is to attempt contacting the owner. Owners of junk vehicles on Madison Street are being asked to have them removed.

Fiscal Officer Jason Shade reported at total of $2,221,196.84 in all accounts with $600,000 of that invested.

Council set Oct. 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. for Halloween trick or treat and participants should have their porch light on. At 6 p.m. Dec. 8 is the annual Christmas parade.

Members set a 6:30 p.m. Oct. 7 personnel committee meeting to discuss employee bonuses preceding the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
