Historical portrayal planned for Civil War roundtable
Rose O’Neal Greenhow, Confederate spy, will be portrayed by Raylene Hlavaty at 4 p.m. Sunday during the Johnsons Island Civil War Roundtable of Tiffin at T.J. Willie’s. Dinner follows at 5 pm.
Hlavaty of central Ohio reenacts several Civil War characters in full characterization and period dress. This will be her first presentation of Greenhow, who was a Washington socialite and confidante of presidents to acquire information. She was discovered and put in prison, later released, and at life’s end drowned off the Atlantic coast by the weight of the money she was smuggling in her skirt.
