Grade A Celebration to be Aug. 25
Tiffin and Fostoria Kiwanis Clubs are to host the 11th annual Grade A Celebration 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Entertainment Building at the Seneca County Fairgrounds.
This year’s celebration is sponsored by Good Shepherd Home and honors the 2019 Seneca County Junior Fair participants who received a grade A on their project.
Eligible Junior Fair participants, along with their parents, families and advisors are invited to enjoy a picnic dinner followed by the Whiz Bang Science Show by Dr. Dave Lohnes. A grand prize drawing of a tablet will be held and other door prizes will be given throughout the evening. A silent auction will be held in support of The Seneca County 4-H Program. Donations are provided by 4-H clubs and individual organizations.
The dinner is free for the Grade A Junior Fair participants (including Cloverbuds) and advisors. For everyone else, dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children 1 to 8 years of age. Reservations for the dinner must be made by contacting the fair participants’ 4-H leader, or at the Ohio State extension Office by Aug.16.

City of Tiffin offering free pool admission
Due to high temperatures in the forecast, the city of Tiffin has decided to offer free admission to the city pool today, Friday and Saturday. Pool hours are 1-8 p.m. Friday and noon-5 p.m. Saturday.
Mayor Aaron Montz said, “The health and well-being of our residents is of the utmost importance during this extreme heat.” He commended Park Director Bryce Kuhn for organizing the free days.
“This could not be possible without the great staff at the Tiffin City Pool. Please help them by obeying and following all rules,” Kuhn said.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning through Saturday. Heat index values are predicted to be as high as 110 degrees Saturday.
In addition, the city of Tiffin has joined with Tiffin-Seneca United Way to open cooling centers at three locations.
Allen Eiry Center, 28 Hopewell Ave., is to be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, 77 Jefferson St., is to be open 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Relay run to visit Tiffin
The MS Run the US relay has already begun and is to conclude in August.
Runners run 160 miles over six consecutive days during his/her assigned relay segment. The relay is a 19-segment relay stretching 3,260 miles across America to help raise funds for Multiple-Sclerosis.
Wednesday, St. Louis resident Jon Franko is to run through Tiffin. He is running from Van Wert to Cuyahoga Falls — starting Monday. Franko was diagnosed with MS in 2016 and has used running and biking to help raise close to $56,000 for the cause.
Unemployment rate falls from May to June
COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell slightly from May to June.
State officials Friday said the unemployment rate was 4% in June, compared with 4.1% the previous month. Ohio’s unemployment rate stood at 4.6% in June 2018.
The national rate was 3.7% in June, up from 3.6% in May, and down from 4% in June 2018.
The state Job and Family Services Department says Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased by 1,500 jobs from May to June.
