Junk vehicle ordinance goes into effect in Sycamore

SYCAMORE — After much discussion, Sycamore village’s junk car ordinance skipped the customary waiting period and went into effect immediately.

After a third reading of the junk car vehicle and vehicle parts ordinance was read and approved during Tuesday evening’s Sycamore Village Council meeting, Councilwoman Darcy Zimmerman — citing all the discussion regarding the ordinance — moved to have 30-day waiting period waived. The council then voted in favor of making it effective immediately.

Village Administrator Chuck Clark informed those in attendance that the sidewalks at all crosswalks had been taken out to prepare for repaving of the downtown streets. Clark also stated the health department had completed inspections of the Sycamore pool and that at least four lifeguards will undergo certification testing by the end of May.

Finally, Zimmerman thanked the village and its workers for stocking the concessions stands at Legion Fields Clark and asked that the village give $250 to the Legion to be used as Little League start-up money.

In other matters:

• The village approved a water supply revolving loan account agreement for the Seventh Street project loan application.

• Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rodney Clinger reported the department will receive an insurance check for freeze damage. The department paid a $1,000 deductible and the cost of repairs were $8,400.

• The fire station is to host an open house Saturday during the No One Fights Alone car and bike show. Clinger said demonstrations will start at 10 a.m. and the station will pass out smoke detectors.

• Clinger requested a member of the finance committee accompany him to the Eden Township meeting for Seneca County. In concerns of council, Summer Rhoad also thanked Kelly and told everyone to go to the No One Fights Alone event, which is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in downtown Sycamore.

• Zimmerman said a gun raffle was held May 5 to support youth baseball uniforms and it raised around $5,000.
