Board certifies election results: Five votes added; results unchanged

PHOTO BY VICKI JOHNSON Will French, of Election Systems & Software, Omaha, Nebraska, uses the county’s new ExpressVote equipment to recount votes from the May 7 primary, and add three absentee ballots and two provisional ballots that were approved to be counted Monday by the Seneca County Board of Elections.

Five additional votes — three absentee and two provisional — didn’t change the results of the May 7 primary. The Seneca County Board of Elections met Thursday to certify the final vote count.

The only results that were in question after the primary were in Tiffin’s Second Ward, but Director Jim Ehrman said only one of the five additional votes was from a Tiffin voter and that person voted for Ken Jones.

Final numbers in the second ward were Jones, 66; Ben Shuff, 27; and Susan Wilkinson, 24. Jones and Shuff face each other in the Nov. 5 general election.

Also on the November ballot will be city, village, township and school board elected positions as well as several local issues.
