Garage, three vehicles destroyed in fire

Three vehicles and a garage were destroyed by a fire Tuesday morning.

The fire that destroyed the unattached two-car garage at 154 Wentz St. was reported about 10 a.m., and personnel from Tiffin Fire Rescue Division, Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Tiffin Police Department and Tiffin’s Public Works responded.

Chief Kevin Veletean of Tiffin Fire Rescue Division said fire was coming out of the doors, windows and part of the roof when the first crew arrived. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes and was extinguished in an hour, he said.

Veletean said part of the ceiling had collapsed, and the garage will be torn down. One vehicle, sets of tools, a large tool box, an oven and air compressors were inside the garage.

The garage, its contents and two vehicles outside all were destroyed, he said.

Total damage was $75,000, according to Veletean.

Veletean said the fire originated inside the garage. The exact cause couldn’t be determined due to the amount of damage, he said.

No one was hurt, he said.

Off-duty Tiffin Fire Rescue Division personnel were summoned to handle any calls received while the crew fought the fire.
