The best is yet to come: Two new musicals on stage at Ohio Star Theater

SUGARCREEK — Ohio Star Theater is to be offering two, brand new shows to round out the 2019 season.

Beginning Aug. 23, “A Simple Sanctuary” is an exciting, suspenseful story with twists and turns you won’t expect. The story is based on a novel by Beverly and David Lewis. The story follows Melissa James. She prayed the day would never come, but when her past comes calling, she has no choice but to flee. Pursued and living on the run, she finds desperate sanctuary and surprising friendship in Amish country. This production is part suspense and part romance. A Simple Sanctuary is the compelling story of love tested, the cost of freedom, and the solace found in true community. Infused with Blue Gate Musicals’ signature blend of humor, heart and harmonies, this performance is uplifting and entertaining.

“A Simple Sanctuary” will be at Ohio Star Theater in Sugarcreek, Ohio beginning Aug. 23 and ending November 9, 2019.

Just in time for the holidays, “The Christmas Tree Ship” sets sail on stage from Nov. 19 to Dec. 28. Based on a true story, this new production is the perfect choice when looking for a special something to do during the holidays.

A ship. A storm. And a Christmas story of heroic proportions. In November 1912, a man known as “Captain Santa” stood at the helm of The Christmas Tree Ship which was transporting Christmas trees from upper Michigan to the Chicago area’s underprivileged and wealthy alike when it encountered a violent storm on Lake Michigan. Now, on a mission to keep her family’s legacy alive, his widow has to come to terms with the lake and all it represents to her. But can she do it? Daughter Elsie believes together they can, and has a surprise in store for her mother that will change everything.
