Employees of Chicago Ornamental Plaster have been working at The Ritz Theatre, 30 S. Washington St., restoring the plaster on the walls of the balcony.
According to Bruce Hannam, marketing director of The Ritz, the theater has had a problem with water leaking into the building, affecting the plaster on the exterior walls for the past 10-15 years. He said about six years ago, they made a long-term plan to fix the roof and seal the exterior walls.
Once everything was sealed and it was apparent the building was water-tight, work began on fixing the plaster.
The next phase is to have the walls repainted to match the existing colors.
In addition, C and J Seating from Marysville has been working on the seats in the VIP section, which have been coming loose.
