After mission trip, United Baptist readies for block party
Following a mission trip to Honduras in July, one Tiffin church is getting ready for events this fall.
United Baptist Church, 419 Coe St., sent 10 members to one of the most dangerous countries in the world, Honduras, on a mission trip this summer.
“We had an exceptionally good trip,” said Jesse Caro, lead pastor.
The trip consisted of those who went to help their partner church and area schools, Caro said.
“The trip takes a lot of energy and resources, so we didn’t have many events scheduled this summer, but we are ready to get back at it,” he said.
Among the events is a community We Love Tiffin Block Party 1-4 p.m. Sept. 9, with a rain date of Sept. 23.
This is the second year the church has planned this event. However, last year the event was rained out.
“This year we made sure to have a rain date so we wouldn’t lose money,” Caro said.
The event is to include bounce houses, hot dogs, drinks, popcorn, snow cones, games and more.
Caro said United will have a booth set up during the Seneca County Farmers Market in Downtown Tiffin and for the annual Around the Town event Saturday welcoming back college students. During the event, Caro said they will have a drawing for four $25 gift certificates for area businesses and other goodies.
During Tiffin’s trick or treat, Caro said, they will have cars in front of the church to pass out candy to trick or treaters.
“We want people to know we are here and we are here to serve them,” he said. “We want to serve them as much as we can.”
Caro said they plan to take more cross-cultural mission trips every other year, with mission trips staying locally in between.
