Crews respond to South SR 231 house fire

Crews responded to a house fire at 3650 S. SR 231 Sunday morning.

Lt. Craig Hemminger of Sycamore Volunteer Fire and Rescue said Tiffin Fire Rescue Division arrived at the scene first and smoke was showing when crews first arrived. He said they were there because of the automatic aid that is set up with the county “which is a good thing.”

Hemminger said there was one occupant in the home at the time of the fire and he was able to get out. The occupant had heard some crackling and went upstairs, found the fire and used an extinguisher, he said.

“He pretty much had the fire out before we got there,” Hemminger said.

The fire was put out in about 20 minutes and crews remained at the scene for about an hour and a half, he said.

Hemminger said the cause and origin of the fire was undetermined Sunday.

The property is owned by Jeffrey A. Lucius, according to the Seneca County Auditor’s Office website. Hemminger said a total loss estimate was undetermined, but there was smoke damage in the attic.

Nobody was injured in the fire, he said.

Hemminger said he wasn’t sure if the occupants were displaced.

The fire was reported at 9:21 a.m. and Sycamore Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Tiffin Fire Rescue Division, Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Department of Transportation responded to the scene.
