Three Clyde entries advance to district
PORT CLINTON — Clyde claimed titles in singles and doubles play and picked up another district berth in singles action Saturday at the Division II sectional tournament.
Both titles for the Fliers came from second-seeded entries upsetting top-seeded foes.
Lukas Cziesla beat Edison’s James Hill 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 for the singles crown, with Daniel Stevens finishing fourth after falling 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to Port Clinton’s Andrew Fillmore.
In doubles play, Fliers Noah Prunty and Jacob Strudthoff upended Nick Lombardi and Connor Goodwin 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 for the championship.
Cziesla reached the finals by beating Fillmore 7-6 (7-3), 6-0, while Stevens lost his semifinal match 6-1, 6-2 to Hill.
Prunty and Strudthoff dropped Port Clinton’s John Young and Elliott Auxter 6-2, 6-1 in their semifinal.
