Hopewell-Loudon’s Elmore tops area list of All-Ohio players
Chieftains sophomore named 1st team all-state, SE’s Bowerman, NR’s Gillig and BC’s Pifhers also gain honors
Hopewell-Loudon’s MaKayla Elmore landed on the first team and four other area players gained honors Tuesday when the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association released its All-Ohio list.
She was joined on the Division IV team by second-team senior pick Courtney Pifher of Buckeye Central, third-team freshman selection Claudia Pifher of Buckeye Central and special mention junior pick Brooklyn Gillig of New Riegel.
In Division III, Seneca East sophomore Jessica Bowerman ended as a third-team player.
Elmore, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, made a big leap up the ranks for the Chieftains after ending last year as a special mention player.
She averaged 21.3 points, 12 rebounds, 3.7 steals, 2.1 blocks and 1.9 assists this year en route to being named the district player of the year and leading Hopewell-Loudon to the regional semifinals.
Buckeye Central, which also reached the regional semifinals, got a double helping of talent this year from the Pifher sisters.
Courtney Pifher, an honorable mention selection last year, turned in 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Bucks while Claudia Pifher averaged 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals in her first year of high school ball.
Gillig gave the Blue Jackets 12 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.1 steals.
Bowerman’s 14.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 1.8 assists helped the Tigers capture the Northern 10 Athletic Conference champion, their first conference crown in 37 years, on the way to ending as district runners-up.
