Trio of Upper Sandusky wrestlers advance to Sally George semifinals
MARION — Three Upper Sandusky wrestlers advanced to the semifinals and a handful of others are still alive in the consolation bracket after the first day at the Sally George Invitational.
Gage Ebert will hit the mat today for the Rams in a semifinal at 106 pounds against Marion Harding’s Cameron Ross, 132-pounder Emery Pahl takes on London’s Ethan James, and Ashton Shepherd faces Ridgedale’s Josh Patterson at 145 pounds.
The three semifinalists helped the Rams end the first day in ninth place with 28 points in the 21-team event.
Grapplers competing for Upper Sandusky in the consolation rounds include Caleb Payne (120), Brayzin McDaniel (138), Aidan Gallant (152), Garrett Thomas (160), Carson VanHorn (195) and Creighton Morton (220).

LIMA — Carey’s Hayden Jacoby and Lakota’s Trevor Franks each advanced to the 160-pound quarterfinals Friday to highlight area efforts on the first night of the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational.
Carey ended the first day in 17th place with 30 points, while Lakota is tied with Preble Shawnee for 31st (21) and Calvert is 40th (4) out of 43 teams.
Jacoby and Franks could end up facing each other in the finals. Getting there begins today with Jacoby facing Cory-Rawson’s Deontae Davis while Franks takes on Crestview’s Levi Kibler.
Carey has three other quarterfinalists in 120-pounder Reece Mullholand, 182-pounder Tanner May and 285-pounder Ethan Schlack.
Mullholand hits the mat today against Dixie’s J.C. Fox, May takes on Carlisle’s Gabe Bowser, and Schlack goes against Columbus Grove’s Jeff Meyer.
Several other area wrestlers will start the day in the consolation rounds.
They include Calvert’s Jace Wilson (106), Carey’s Trent Eggert (145) and A.J. Gernert (152), and Lakota’s Austin Witte (132), Spencer Franks (152) and Jaymn Bartson (182).
