Columbian pair end careers in district meet at Red Hawk

FINDLAY — Andrew Branson and Trevor McCarthy played their last rounds of high school golf Thursday in the Division I district at Red Hawk.

Considering the windy and cool conditions and the fact the district only was advancing two teams and two individuals not on those teams, the odds were stacked against the Columbian pair.

Branson carded a 93, which was good enough for a tie for 23rd and McCarthy was in a tie for 45th with a 102.

Clyde’s Ryder Gamerstfelder ended 57th, shooting a 109.

The top two scores of the day were the two individuals advanced. Palmer Yenrick (Clay) shot a 77, while Max Watson (Ashland) had a 78.

Hisey falls short of state

BOWLING GREEN — Clyde’s Siera Hisey won her first match Thursday at the Division II district at Bowling Green State University.

However, she dropped her second match to Galion’s Kayley Gimbel, which was the match Hisey needed to advance to state.

Hisey topped Bryan’s Katie Farrell 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round, but then lost 6-0, 6-1 to Gimbel.

Bellevue’s Rayven Whyde also was in the singles tournament, but dropped her first match against Napoleon’s Aliza Lankenau 6-1, 6-1.

At doubles, Clyde’s pair of Lakotah Cagle and Emma Strudthoff lost to Lima Central Catholic’s Anna Janowski and Madie Brinkman 6-2, 6-1. Fostoria’s Kyhra Baeder and Rubi Dessausure dropped their match to Lima Bath’s Ruby Bolen and Esther Bolen 6-0, 6-1.
