Coach: Graham Treadway

2017: Third in N10

Returning letterwinners: Seniors Trevor Clifford; Isaiah Wahburn. Juniors Brett Montgomery; Evan Young.

Others: Sophomore Benjamin Latham. Freshmen Owen Knapp.

Outlook: Brett Montgomery is so good, he has Treadway thinking differently when his team goes into matches.

“It’s rare with a (No. 1) man where you think we’ll have a two stroke lead,” Treadway said.

Most times, the coach said, you expect the team’s No. 1 player to play even with the other team’s top golfer.

But not with Montgomery.

“With Brett I expect him to be one or two under,” Treadway said. He’s so consistent.

“It takes pressure off the (No.) 2 or 3 man. The guys know if someone they’re playing with is playing well, they know they don’t have to beat him, they just have to stay with him.”

And Treadway said Montgomery’s work ethic is shared by his teammates.

“Evan and Brett and Trevor are best friends,” Treadway said. “They play with each other all the time. when we got done (in a recent match), they were going out to play four holes just to mess around.”

And Montgomery is more than just a great player

“Some days, I call him ‘Coach Brett,'” Treadway said. “He has great drills, great advice for the kids. It’s great for them to see what hard work on the golf course looks like.

“He’s created an atmosphere where everyone generally wants to get better,” Treadway said.

And the coach said the Rams have big expectations for this season. They want to be N10 champs.

“I thought this last year as well; we want to win it, and we believe that we can,” he said. “These guys are very competitive, which helps. We should be at the top of that mix, but we thought that last year as well.”
