Clyde boys golf

Coach: Rob Jennings, third year.

2017: 14-0, Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division outright champion, third in SBC Lake Division Tournament.

Returning letterwinners: Seniors Ben Hohenstein; Logan Nicely; Ryder Gamerstfelder; Grant Reese.

Others: Junior Tyler Dearth.

Outlook: The defending SBC Lake champion Fliers are in pretty good shape to retain that title with a lot of depth with 20 players and four of them being senior returners.

However, early in the season Jennings said his team will have to find a way to replace Ian Hilliker (first-team SBC Lake), David Hohenstein (second-team SBC Lake) and Mikey Haynes.

Regardless of how much experience his kids have, Clyde will compete.

“Clyde kids in general are very competitive no matter what sport you coach,” Jennings said. “They want to test themselves and I appreciate that. They have the fire and work ethic to keep working and that makes it fun to come to practice every day.”

The letterwinners will be looked upon to lead the team and being along some talented young players, Jennings said.

“You hope those returners lead the team and that the younger guys will step up throughout the season,” he said. “And until some of the young guys beat those returners out, they will be in the lineup. They’ve earned it.

“Really, each individual needs to figure out what they need to work on to get better and that’s something I preach to them. I tell them no matter how good they are, they can always work on their game. Everyone remembers how you finish and not the start, so I’m hoping these guys keep improving and we get back to where we were last season.”
