TC gets a few wins, but no district qualifiers

FREMONT — Every Columbian player or doubles team got a win Thursday at the Division II sectional tournament at Fremont Ross.

However, none got to the semifinals, and TC didn’t qualify anyone for districts.

In singles play, Anthony Petrosino had a first-round bye before topping Zach Hoover of Mansfield Madison 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in Round 2. He then fell to Norwalk’s Austin Brown in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Colin Burkett also had a first-round bye before beating Ross’ Andrew Miller 6-2, 6-2. He lost to Ashland’s Jack Shultz 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Ryan Crocker beat Norwalk’s Ben Traczed 7-5, 6-3, before falling to Ross’ Nils Nolte in the second round.

The doubles team of Presley Eastlick and Jaythan Triplat beat Sandusky’s Will Wade and Boo Sims 6-2, 6-2, before falling to Ashland’s Nolan Glazier and Tommy Glazier in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

Zack Krintzline and Jacob Beamer topped Madison’s Harrison Lunsford and Brandon Liggett 6-0, 6-1 in the first round and then lost to Ross’ Trevor Weickert and Alex Thatcher 6-1, 6-0.

Clyde with 3 district qualifiers

PORT CLINTON — Clyde’s Lukas Cziesla, Daniel Stevens and the doubles team of Noah Prunty and Jacob Strudthoff advanced to the semifinals Saturday at Port Clinton in a Division II sectional tournament Thursday.

The two singles players and the doubles pair will advance to districts as well.

Stevens beat Sandusky St. Mary’s Aidan Fullam 6-2, 6-1, topped Huron’s Ben Nevison 6-2, 6-1 and then defeated St. Joe’s Spencer Harrison 6-4, 6-2. He will play Edison’s James Hill in the semifinals.

Cziesla beat Oak Harbor’s Brenen Ish 6-0, 6-0 in the first round, before upending Vermilion’s Brandon Weitzel 6-0, 6-0. He advanced to the semifinal to face Port Clinton’s Andrew Fillmore by beating the Redskins’ Jack Kessler 6-2, 6-1.

Prunty and Strudthoff had a first-round bye before defeating Huron’s Graham McGlashon and Nick Ritzler 6-0, 6-1 and then beating Vermilion’s Aaron Gross and Grayson Jones 6-0, 6-0. The duo will play Port Clinton’s John Young and Elliott Auxter in the semifinals.

Clyde’s other doubles team of Logan Nicely and David Hohenstein bowed out in the opening round with a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Port Clinton’s Quincy Kowal and Noah Shaw. Alex Kauble beat Sandusky St. Mary’s Jacob Snell 6-1, 6-0, before falling to Fillmore 6-2, 6-1 in the second round.

For Calvert, Connor Kwiat made a run to the quarterfinals, but couldn’t quite advance. Kwiat started his day with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Fostoria’s Braden Finsel. He then defeated Oak Harbor’s Matt Klima 6-1, 6-3, but fell 6-0, 6-0 to Hill. Will Klepper lost to Kessler by default in the first round, while Josh Recker bowed out in the first round as well, losing to Fillmore 6-1, 6-0.

Calvert’s Hannah Kelbley and Hannah Barnes topped Oak Harbor’s Delaney Hayes and Wyatt Miller 6-0, 6-1 in the first round, before losing to Edison’s Nick Lombardi and Connor Goodwin 6-1, 6-0. Xavier Ardner and Alec Zimmerman lost their first-round matchup with Huron’s McGlashon and Ritzler 6-0, 6-0.

Malone and Stuckman finish a win from districts

SHELBY — The Upper Sandusky doubles team of Levi Malone and Sam Stuckman almost qualified for the district tournament Thursday.

After two wins, the duo lost 7-5, 6-4 to a pair from Clear Fork. They beat a Galion team 6-2, 6-1 in the first round and then topped Bellevue’s Logan Miller and Nate Fox 6-3, 6-2.

The other doubles team of Keegan Hossler and Grant Bower fell 6-3, 7-5 to a Mansfield St. Peter’s team.

Landon Ramos won his first match against Ontario’s Gregory Tan 6-2, 6-4, but then fell to Clear Fork’s Noah Brown 6-0, 6-1. Justin Blackburn was defeated by Galion’s Zach Grimes 6-4, 7-5 and Will Barnes’ season ended after a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 loss to Willard’s Graham Wiers in the first round.
