Five Student Princes named to all region teams

Five members of the Heidelberg football team have earned a spot on the all-North Region team.

Seniors Austin Crow, Demetrius Magee, Brock Riggs and junior Austin Baker earned first-team honors while senior Jarrett Wasson earned honorable mention. With the four on the first team, it is the most that Heidelberg has had in a single season. Five selections are the most since 2014.

This marks Magee’s second time on the all-region first team in as many years. The wideout holds the record for most receiving touchdowns in school history with 27. In his final season, he had 14 TD grabs and over 1,000 receiving yards. Magee is to play in Sunday’s National Bowl Game to showcase in Florida.

Crow also adds a first-team nod to go with one he received for the 2016 season. He is a two-time Ohio Athletic Conference Paul Hoernemann Award winner. Crow, a defensive lineman, finished the season with 55 tackles with 21 for a loss.

Riggs, a Columbian graduate, played a key part on the offensive line for the ‘Berg. He also scored a touchdown in this year’s final regular season game against Capital. Riggs is also a finalist for the Peisman Trophy and is to travel to New York City for the ceremony this weekend.

Baker is a Clyde graduate who averaged 41.6 yards per punt this season. The punter pinned his opponents inside the 20-yard line 19 times over the course of the season.

Wasson has been a two-time captain for the Princes. The defensive back recorded 43 tackles and grabbed four interceptions in his final campaign.
