Carey gets around Black Knights

VAN BUREN — Carey broke away in the third quarter and survived a rally in the fourth Saturday to upend Van Buren 53-52.

The Blue Devils (2-0) trailed 29-28 at halftime, but outscored Van Buren 17-8 in the third period to go up 45-37. However, the Black Knights closed the gap in the fourth quarter with a 15-8 scoring advantage.

Cody Luzader topped Carey with 18 points and Logan Smiley netted 10. Trey Bame had nine points, four steals and three assists, Hayden Stone grabbed eight rebounds and Griffin Summit tallied six boards and four steals.

Matthew Ayers scored 14 points for Van Buren (0-1), Matthew Iliff had 13 points and Kade Steveson chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.

Surge in fourth keys Stockaders

VANLUE — Old Fort raced off in the fourth quarter to turn a close game with Vanlue into a 64-49 from Saturday.

The Stockaders (1-0) led 37-34 entering the final period before using a 27-15 scoring surge to pull away.

Jacob Webb sparked Old Fort with 21 points, nine assists and four steals. A.J. Steyer added 12 points and eight rebounds, Luke Wagner snared five steals and Carson Steyer had seven boards.

Caleb Bonham netted 15 points for the Wildcats (0-2), Jacob Kloepfer had 13 and Treg Price netted 12.

Trojans jump on top quickly

GREENWICH — South Central jumped out 22-9 by the end of the first quarter and had three players score in double digits Saturday in a 63-39 win against Buckeye Central.

Simon Blair’s 22 points and four steals for the Trojans led everyone. Ben Lamoreaux added 16 points and Alex Holland tossed in 10.

The Bucks got 16 points and nine rebounds from Max Loy. Darren Wurm and Dalton Sheaffer each scored nine points, with Wurm adding three steals.

Tigers start season 1-0

PLYMOUTH — Alex Forehand dropped in a game-high 21 points for Seneca East as the Tigers won their season opener 68-60 over Plymouth.

TJ Pugh backed Forehand with 14 points, while Clint wurm tallied 11 points and six rebounds.

Tyler Turek had eight points.

Jacob Adams led the Big Red with 16 points. Blake Gibson poured in 13 points and Kade Collins and Brennan Marsillet both had nine.
