Blue Devils slip past Redskins on DeFeo bucket

CAREY — Destiny DeFeo scored the go-ahead bucket on a drive with just under 13 seconds left and Carey survived a buzzer-beating attempt at the other end Saturday to clip Arcadia 39-38.

DeFeo finished with 12 points for the Blue Devils, who improved to 3-0.

Kennedy Pratt missed the buzzer-beating 18-foot attempt for the Redskins (2-1). She ended with 16 points.

Sydney Kin added 10 points and 14 rebounds for Carey, and Dana Worst snared four steals.

St. Joe wins

big over Calvert

FREMONT — St. Joe jumped out to an early lead, and never looked back Saturday in a 64-31 win over Calvert.

The Streaks doubled up the Senecas, 18-9 after one, led 29-15 at the half, then broke it wide open in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Senecas 19-2.

The Streaks were led by Miranda Wammas, who scored 17 points.

For Calvert, Shelby Hamminger finished with 12 points, while Hannah Burns had seven points and a team-best nine rebounds.

The Senecas fell to 1-1, 0-1 in the Sandusky Bay Conference River.

Marshall hits scoring milestone for Clyde

SANDUSKY — Heidi Marshall topped the 2,000 career point plateau Saturday as Clyde turned back Perkins 62-53 in Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division play.

Marshall led the Fliers (1-2, 1-0 SBC) with 22 points. Alexis Keegan backed her with 15 points, Jacqueline Smith tallied 14 points and eight rebounds and Madison Bannister tossed in nine points.

The Pirates (1-2, 0-1) got a game-high 32 points from Olivia Howard. Nancy Siegel chipped in eight points and Aleena Winston grabbed 11 rebounds.

Warriors power off in second half

RAWSON — Mohawk raced away from Cory-Rawson in the second half to turn a close game into a 44-23 win.

The Warriors (1-0) led just 22-16 at halftime, but outscored C-R 11-2 in the third quarter to take control.

Anna Stillberger led the winners with 19 points, Sandra Pennington tossed in seven points and Paityn Clouse grabbed six rebounds.

Sami Roth scored 10 points for the Hornets and Zoe Chisholm had nine.

Blue Jackets ride quick start

NEW RIEGEL — New Riegel dominated the first half and got a double-double from Brianna Gillig in Saturday’s 57-36 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division romp past Lakota.

The Blue Jackets (2-1, 1-0 SBC) vaulted out to a 23-11 lead by the end of the first quarter and outscored the Raiders 20-3 in the second.

Gillig led the charge with 29 points and 11 rebounds.

Brooklyn Gillig added 17 points, seven assists and four steals for New Riegel and Lindsay Bouillon snared nine rebounds.

Madison King netted eight points for the Raiders, Brook Shank scored seven points and Alexa Gabel grabbed seven boards.

Redmen left searching for first win

ROSSFORD — Rossford didn’t shoot especially well from the foul line, but the Bulldogs made enough there, especially in the second half Saturday, to turn back Northern Buckeye Conference foe Fostoria 52-41.

Fostoria (0-4, 0-1 NBC) led 12-8 at the first stop, but the Bulldogs rallied for a 24-22 halftime edge before ending the third quarter up 40-35.

Foul shooting helped somewhat, with Rossford going 11 for 23 at the line in the second half.

Sammi Mikonowicz netted 17 points for the Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0), Megan Dunne scored 16 and Harleigh Peters added nine.

The Redmen got 14 points from Evion Taylor and 10 from Tyriana Settles.

Truckers break away from TC

NORWALK — Norwalk trailed 8-7 at the first stop, but outscored Columbian 29-14 over the next two quarters Saturday en route to claiming a 50-34 Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division win.

Jasmine Thomas popped in 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Truckers (3-0, 1-0 SBC). Jada Thomas added 14 points and Bethany Cring netted 12.

Kaia Woods and Abby Dryfuse both scored 10 points for the Tornadoes (1-2, 0-1) and Maddie Brisendine tallied eight. Dryfuse also hauled in 10 boards.

Santoro nears triple double in win

SANDUSKY — It was a pretty good Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division debut for Bellevue as freshman Cory Santoro dropped in 30 points and recorded nine rebounds and nine steals as the Lady Red routed Sandusky 74-35.

Casey Santoro backed Cory with 20 points, seven rebounds, nine steals and four assists for the Lady Red, while Gabby turner and Payton Vogel both had six points. Vogel had four rebounds and five steals.
