Warriors outlast Blue Jackets in 5
NEW RIEGEL — New Riegel and Mohawk battled back and forth in a five-set match, but the Warriors were able to pull out the win.
Mohawk (16-4) got a 25-19 win in the first set before the Blue Jackets took sets two and three 25-20, 25-16. The Warriors fought back in the final two sets 25-23, 15-12 for the win.
Brianna Gillig had team highs for New Riegel (17-4) with 20 kills and 16 digs, while Kaitlyn Kirian hammered 17 kills. Lindsay Bouillon added five kills, while dishing out 36 assists and sharing the lead with 16 digs. Brooklyn Gillig chipped in 12 digs.
Alexa Konkle and Madi Chester turned in double-doubles to lead the Warriors. Konkle recorded 44 assists and 16 digs, while Chester hammered 14 kills and had a team-high 17 digs.
Destini Oler led Mohawk’s offense with 19 kills and eight digs, Kaylee Ward added 10 kills and seven digs and Emma Myers-Huffman chipped in eight kills.
ARLINGTON — After falling in a close first set 25-22, Hopewell-Loudon dropped the final two sets 25-13, 25-12 to Arlington Monday.
Jacque Burns had seven kills to lead the Chieftains, while Jessie Kreais added five. Peyton Hoover was able to chip in three. Hailey Coppus dished out 18 assists.
Willard sweeps SE
WILLARD — Despite five kills, 12 assists and 11 digs from Seneca East’s Jessica Bowerman, Willard swept the Tigers 25-16, 25-14, 25-23 in non-league play.
Aubrey Saylors backed Bowerman with 11 kills and a block for Seneca East, while Bonnie Bivens made five blocks, Lauren Bogner made 11 digs and Jillian Allgyre made 10 digs.
