Columbian girls golf

Editor’s note: Team pictures will run in the special fall sports section, which comes out Aug. 24

Coach: Tony Vasko

Returning letterwinners: Seniors Kate Burkes; Olivia Olinger. Juniors Taylor Losey; Ava Sarka. Sophomore Meredith Obringer.

Others: Juniors Savannah Hagen; Kacie Ludwig ;Tyler Ward. Freshman Breanna Brock.

Vasko has numbers this season.

The Tornadoes roster has nine players, which Vasko said will be good for the players’ improvement.

“Nine girls does create competition,” Vasko said. “The lineup is very fluid.”

The team’s top player is Sarka, a district qualifier and a second-team all-NOL selection from a season ago.

Vasko was asked what makes Sarka special.

“Her athleticism, she’s a very good athlete and figures things out on the golf course,” Vasko said. “She’s naturally strong, hits the ball well, and at times can overpower a golf course.”

Vasko said he has seen good signs elsewhere on the roster.

“Two seniors, Kate Burkes, Olivia Obringer, they are hard workers at the game, solid players (who are) consistent. Taylor Rosey, a junior, showed great strides in her game.”
