Panthers cruise into regional finals, top Hicksville

DEFIANCE — Malachi Abbott threw for two touchdowns and ran for another Saturday as McComb throttled Hicksville 42-0 in a Division VII regional semifinal.

The win sends the Panthers to the regional finals against Convoy Crestview, which beat Arlington 28-7.Abbott’s TD tosses covered 20 yards in the second quarter to Caden Schroeder and 31 yards in the third to Jake Crouse. He also sprinted IN from 62 yards out in third period.

The Panthers opened the scoring with Kheagan Loe’s 5-yard burst in the first, then added a 4-yard sprint by Schroeder in the second before Abbott’s first scoring pass.

Corey Swisher capped the scoring with a 3-yard run with less than a minute to go in the game.

Kline-led Crestview powers on

LIMA — Drew Kline ran for three touchdowns and Luke Gerardot gave Convoy Crestview a big boost early in the second quarter Saturday as the Knights dropped Arlington 28-7 in a Division VII regional semifinal.

Crestview advances to play McComb, which shut out Hicksville 42-0, in the regional final.The Knights and Arlington ended the first quarter knotted at 7 after Kline raced in from 36 yards  and Matt Crawford had a 50-yard pick-6 for the Red Devils at the end of the period.

But Gerardot opened the second quarter with an 87-yard TD jaunt, and Kline added scoring runs of 53 yards in the third quarter and 5 yards in the fourth to help the Knights pull away.

St. Paul stays perfect

SANDUSKY — Norwalk St. Paul scored on the game’s second snap and its defense clamped down on Monroeville en route to claiming a 24-0 Division VII regional semifinal win Saturday.

The victory sends the 12-0 Flyers into the regional finals against 11-1 Warren John F. Kennedy, which beat Mogadore 16-3.

Derek Gross played a big role in sending St. Paul into the finals, breaking off a 26-yard run just 34 seconds into the game and adding a 66-yard scoring sprint in the third period.

Joey Catalano added a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter, and Colton Service bulled in from a yard out in the fourth.

Lex keeps moving on

BELLEVUE — Lexington scored three times after trailing 19-10 in the third quarter Saturday to upset Sandusky 30-19 in a Division III regional semifinal.

The sixth-seeded Minutemen will play top-seeded and 12-0 Toledo Central Catholic, which beat University School 56-13, in the finals.

Who would play Toledo Central Catholic was a toss up early.Sandusky’s Eian Sherman scored from 38 yards out on a fake punt for a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

Lexington answered on the second play of the second quarter when Logan Pfizenmayer raced in from 8 yards out for a 7-6 edge.

Sandusky’s Max Corso then sandwiched field goals of 27 and 29 yards around a 37-yard boot by Lexington’s Ian Moore to send the Blue Streaks into halftime with a 12-10 lead.

Ja’Vez Alexander extended the lead to 19-10 with an 11-yard TD toss to Keith Williams in the third period for Sandusky.Then the Minutemen roared back.Hunter Biddle raced in from 31 yards out and Pfizenmayer scored on a 1-yard plunge with 39 seconds left in the third to put Lexington up 24-19.

Biddle then scored on a 46-yard run with 2:42 left in the game to cap the scoring.
