Dragons edged by Panthers in second round of regional

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. —  It took a little more than five minutes of game play for Drury to take the lead on Tiffin University, and a little more than 20 to pad it.

And while Tiffin answered Drury’s second goal within minutes, it wasn’t able to overcome the whole deficit. Michael McPeak accounted for TU’s only goal of the day, and the Dragons season ended with a 2-1 loss to the Panthers.

The Dragons, who won the GLIAC Tournament last week, finished at 14-5-2. The Panthers advance with a 13-4-3 markPierre Villez got things rolling for Drury, connecting on an unassisted score 5:08 into the contest. Less than 15 minutes later, Ben Bruce scored off an assist by Vince Sasso, and the the Panthers grabbed a 2-0 lead.

Tiffin answered a few minutes later when McPeak converted, coming off an assist by Spencer Wood and Andre Landell.But that was it for scoring in the game.Tiffin lost despite out-shooting the Panthers 24-8, and having 10 corner kicks. TU goalkeeper Cary Wilson had one save. Drury’s Nicholas Helin made seven saves.With the victory, the Panthers advance to play Rockhurst Friday in the third round.
