Blue Devils take runner-up spot in Arlington sectional
ARLINGTON – Carey finished second and New Riegel nearly finished third Thursday at the Division III sectional tournament at Sycamore Springs.
Van Buren raced away with the team crown by shooting a 316.
The runner-up Blue Devils carded a 353, with McComb holding off New Riegel 362-365 for third.
The top three teams and top three players not on those teams qualified for next Thursday’s district tournament at Stone Ridge.
Trey Bame keyed Carey with an 83, Marcus Miller fired an 86, Chase Wagner shot a 90 and Easton Roark added a 94. Alex Kimmet (97) rounded out the Blue Devils.
Allan Acree shot an 89 for New Riegel and Shane Halcomb had a 90.
Bluffton’s Aaron Belcher (78), Upper Scioto Valley’s Brady Hipsher (79) and Colonel Crawford’s Nick Gremling (84) advanced as individuals.
H-L, Lakota each send one to district
CLYDE – Hopewell-Loudon’s Deavan Gosche and Lakota’s Nathan Walter both earned district berths Thursday at the Division III sectional tournament at Green Hills.
Gosche carded an 83 and Walter shot an 85 to earn their berths. Cardinal Stritch’s Stephen Johnson took the other district berth with an 82.
Woodmore took the team title with a 336. Margaretta was awarded second over Danbury on a scorecard tiebreaker after both shot a 338.
Hopewell-Loudon finished fifth with a 374, Lakota held off Old Fort 394-400 for ninth.
Cody Balliett backed up Gosche with a 90 for the Chieftains, and Lakota also got a 97 from Collin Gosche.
Trey Hossler’s 96 and Kaleb Wilkinson’s 98 paced Old Fort.
Yates wins playoff to advance
OTTAWA – Fostoria’s Trey Yates upended Ottawa-Glandorf’s Austin Radcliff in a one-hole playoff Thursday to claim the fourth and final individual district spot at the Division II sectional tournament at Country Acres.
The top three teams and top four players not on those teams qualified for next Thursday’s district tournament at Red Hawk Run.
Yates and Radcliff each finished regulation knotted at 83, forcing the playoff for the fourth and final individual berth.
Paulding’s Ethan Dominque and Van Wert’s Jared Hernandez both fired an 81 for two of the individual spots, and Lima Bath’s Isaiah Bolon shot an 82 for the third.
Liberty-Benton beat Lima Shawnee 329-335 for the team championship, with St. Marys Memorial edging Bath 350-352 for the third and final team berth. Fostoria finished seventh with a 369.
Dalton Cook backed Yates with a 93 for the Redmen.
