Berry’s 2-under par 33 lifts Truckers over Tornadoes
NORWALK – Columbian put together a solid group of scores Monday, led by Wesley Henkel’s 41.
But it’s tough to win when a guy on the other team shoots two-under par.
Norwalk’s Max Berry shot a 33 at Eagle Creek. None of his teammates came within eight strokes of him, but the Truckers still beat the Tornadoes, 163-173.
The Tornadoes’ (1-3) Jack Burkes had a 43, Graydon Benting notched a 44 and Logan Gardner a 45.
Gorrell shoots 35 to lead H-L
FOSTORIA – Bryce Gorrell shot a medal-winning 35, and Hopewell-Loudon got past Calvert at Loudon Meadows, 174-194.
Tyler Rohe shot a 40 for the Chieftains (4-1), while Garret Sendelbach added a 43.
Calvert was paced by Matt Huffman and Bryan Kennedy, who each shot a 48.
Carey gets first N10 win
CAREY – Carey picked up its first Northern 10 Athletic Conference win, topping Wynford 173-201.
Grant Wentling had four pars and a birdie on his way to shooting a 41, sharing medalist honors with Trey Bame, who had four pars of his own. Also for Carey (5-3, 1-2), Marcus Miller shot a 45 and Anthony Driggers carded a 46.
Wynford (2-3, 0-3) was led by Quenten Stucky with a 47.
SE girls score first win
NEW LONDON – The Seneca East girls picked up the first win in program history, topping New London 226-242. Shelby Bumb shot a 52 to lead the Tigers and share medalist honors. Alyson Groves shot a 54 and Madison Gerhardstein shot a 60.
BC goes low to beat US
NEW WASHINGTON – How do you beat a team who’s top golfer posts a 38? Have one of your own match it, and then a second golfer better it. Buckeye Central got two sub-40 rounds in a 158-163 victory over Upper Sandusky.
BC’s Derek Shell was medalist, posting a 37, with teammate Zach Parker right behind him carding a 38. Upper Sandusky’s Tommy Martin matched Parker with a 38.
Also for Buckeye Central (4-0, 3-0 N10), Dylan Wythman shot a 40 while Tanner Zaebst shot a 43.
Upper Sandusky (4-3, 1-2) got a 40 from Cody Clifford, a 42 from Zane Kitzler and a 43 from Turner Dilley.
Mohawks edge Streaks
FOSTORIA – Peter Campbell’s 44 helped St. Wendelin score a 196-206 win over Fremont St. Joe in Sandusky River League action. Makenzie McAfee shot a 50 while Joey DeHaven and Cameron Hunter each posted 51s more the Mohawks.
Collin Spader and Christian Smith each shot 45 to lead St. Joe.
Mohawk girls get first win
SYCAMORE – Mohawk’s girls scored their first win of the year, a 206-234 decision over Rossford. Katelynn Kinley had the low round of the match shooting a 45. Not far behind her were teammates Chelsea Clinger with a 46, and Hanna Burks who shot a career-best 48. Heaven Immelle added a 67 for the Warrors.
Tigers bunch up for win
Only two shots separated Seneca East’s top four golfers Monday as the Tigers used the consistent play to down Northern 10 Athletic Conference rival Colonel Crawford 169-190.
Johnny Diehm’s 41 led the Tigers with his teammates nipping at his heels. Alex Forehand carded a 42 while Riley Kalb and Austin Holmer each posted 43s.
Noah Trease shot a 44 to lead Colonel Crawford.
Seneca East improves to 5-1, 2-1 with the win.
