TC shut out after first day in Amherst
AMHERST – There were a couple of near-misses for Columbian at Wednesday’s Division I regional in Amherst, but at the end of the day, no Tornadoes advanced on.
The Tornadoes’ 4×100 team of Donovan Walker, Josh Gibson, Justin Jarrett and Cliff Miller finished in 44.22. It was the ninth-best time of the day, with the top eight advancing into Friday’s finals.
The other representative for the boys team was discus thrower Codey Chance, who placed 15th with a throw of 137-7. The top four finishers advanced to state.
On the girls side, TC’s Madison Zimmerman ran the 400 preliminary in 59.8, finishing 10th.
Columbian’s Derra Cheatham will compete Friday in the 800.
Mohawk’s Konkle, Seneca East 4×1 advance to finals
LANCASTER – Mohawk’s Ali Konkle will have a chance to race for state after advancing in the 100 hurdles, while the Seneca East girls will have a chance to move on as well. Both Konkle and the Tigers advanced to Friday’s finals at the Division III Regional Meet at Fairfield Union High School.
Seneca East’s 4×100 team of Amber Hescht, Brittany Brookes, Kirsten Camp and Hannah Hahler advanced to Friday’s finals, finishing eighth in the preliminaries (53.44).
Hahler was unable to crack the top four in the shot put, but turned in a scoring effort with a seventh place finish (35-08).
For Mohawk, Konkle was the lone Warrior advancing out of Wednesday’s preliminaries after finishing sixth in 100 hurdles with a time of 16.40. The Warriors though still have runners scheduled to compete in Friday’s distance finals.
