DuMonte’s blast sparks Columbian
Brittany DuMonte smacked a three-run homer in the sixth inning Thursday to key Columbian’s 12-7 win against Hopewell-Loudon.
The Tornadoes (2-15) plated five runs in the third for a 6-0 lead, but the Chieftains answered with five in the top of the fourth to cut the gap.
Columbian added two runs in the bottom of the fourth before DuMonte’s blast came in a four-run sixth.
DuMonte ended 3 for 4 with two more runs and another RBI, and Sierra Shope scored three times, singled twice and doubled.
Roni Daughenbaugh scored twice and singled twice, and Autumn Kuzma had two runs, two RBIs and a single to help Morgan Schalk (2-15) get the win.
Kelsey Coppus took the loss for the Chieftains.
Gabby Gregg went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for H-L, Abby Park had two runs and two singles, Shelbi Sauber scored twice and singled and Emma Kirby lined two singles.
Blue Devils warming up
CAREY – The weather is heating up and so is the Carey softball team. The Blue Devils picked up their sixth-straight win Thursday, a 9-2 decision over Fremont Ross.
Ross jumped out to a 2-0 lead but Carey quickly brought the Little Giants down to size with a three-spot in the bottom of the second. Makenzie Wentling singled home two then Abby Hall gave Carey the lead for good, tripling home Wentling.
Also for Carey (12-6), Chelsea Schlack doubled, singled and drove in a run. Taylor Fletcher picked up two RBIs with Ali Rymer and Raven Moloney also driving in runs. Hannah Draper added a pair of hits.
Dani Berardinelli-Clark picked up the win in the circle. She allowed just two hits and one earned run, and struck out six.
Stockaders drop one late
OLD FORT – Old Fort rallied to tie its game Thursday’s game against Arlington with a run in the fifth inning. But the deadlock didn’t last long as Arlington countered with five in the sixth to take control, en route to a 7-5 victory.
Allison Adelsperger had a pair of singles, a double and drove in a run for the Stockaders. Sammy Miller, Michaela Davidson and Krista Ward all added doubles with Ward and Davidson picking up RBIs. Sara Bell also drove in a run for Old Fort.
Five errors, though, doomed Old Fort’s chances as the Stockaders drop to 10-8.
Martin leads SE charge
GREENWICH – Hannah Martin scored three times and drove in another three runs Thursday to fuel Seneca East’s 14-4 rout of South Central.
Martin doubled and singled for the Tigers (12-10), and also improved to 1-0 in the circle.
Caitlyn Sauers added two runs, two RBIs and a double, Amy Martin had two singles and two runs, Kayleen England scored twice and singled, and Makayla Ruffing, Alyssa England and C.J. Linke all lined two singles.
Raiders vanquish Black Knights
KANSAS – Morgan Gangwer went 3 for 3 at the plate, and tossed a four-hitter with six strikeouts in the circle as Lakota dropped Van Buren, 5-1.
Lakota broke a 1-1 tie with three in the third and never looked back. Alaina Bickford had two hits and drove in a pair. Gangwer, Aubrey Bickford and Destiney Long-Meyer also drove in runs. Bryan Long-Meyer scored twice.
Nicole Miller went 3 for 3 for Van Buren.
