Clyde’s Wollenslegel claims regional high jump crown

LEXINGTON – Clyde’s Paula Wollenslegel captured the girls high jump title Thursday to top area efforts on the first day of the Division II regional track meet at Lexington High.

Wollenslegel cleared 5-5 to earn a trip to state.

The top four in each event qualified for the state meet.

Bellevue’s Kylie Vogel, Elizabeth Ish, Michaela Fox and Lauren Turner ended eighth (10:13.02) in the girls 4×800.

Finals only occurred in the 4×800 and a few field events Thursday, with prelims held in several running events on the first day. The meet concludes Saturday.

Kelly Wollenslegel reached the finals in the 100 hurdles (16.55) and the 300 hurdles (47.3) for Clyde’s girls, as did the 4×100 team of Kristen Hermes, Rene Eberly, Tressa Eberly and Kaitlyn Marcha (51.26).

Vogel, Mariah McPeek, Ish and Turner also advanced to the finals in the 4×400 (4:10.7) for Bellevue.

In the boys meet, Thomas Davis made the finals in the 100 (11.44) and 200 (23.11) to lead Clyde’s efforts in the prelims.

Clyde’s other individual finalists include Collin Rieman in the 400 (50.4) and Kyle Norman in the 300 hurdles (40.21).

Kenyon Missler, Seth Linder, Kyle Norman and Dylan Fultz made the finals in the 4×200 (1:30.38), while Mathew Gerber, Alex Webber, Zachary Rieman and Collin Rieman did the same in the 4×400 (3:28.8).

No qualifiers, finalists on the first day

DAYTON – No area athletes placed or reached the finals during the first day of the Division II regional meet Thursday in Dayton.

Upper Sandusky’s Mallory Weininger finished ninth in the girls high jump (5-1).

In the boys meet, Fostoria’s Rayshon Martin ended 13th in the long jump (19-4 ).

High jumper Hunter Luikhart and shot putter Collin Gardner will compete Saturday for Upper Sandusky’s boys.
